Any advice for how to learn to drive, when your absolutley terrified of driving?

I'm 21, and I still don't have a driver's license. In high school, I never had time to learn, and then I was in college and definitely didnt have the time. I'm now a senior in college, and even though I dont think I'll need to have a car once I graduate because I plan on moving to NYC, I still believe I may at some point need to drive. My younger sister got her license this summer;and so didmy boyfriend, so now I am the only one I know without a license. Ive been taking driving lessons for about a month and a half this summer, and now I have to go back to school, and I still havent taken the road tet. I just know Im not ready to pass the test yet, thats why I havent taken it. Its not that I dont want to drive, I just have an extreme fear of driving. I get like serious panic attacks if Im on the road for more then 15 minutes. Any advice as to how to overcome this fear and actually get my license and drive without being afraid of dying?Any advice for how to learn to drive, when your absolutley terrified of driving?
Well first of all, the fact that you are so afraid of something like driving that you are getting panic attacks is a problem. Panic attacks happen to people for many different reasons and can take over your life. My mom got panic attacks for things that people really shouldn't be terrified of doing (driving for example). One option to get over your fear and not have panic attacks is go to your doctor for some help with panic attacks.

Another way is to just take it slow. Although driving can be scary and of course can be dangerous, so can everything else. You say you are afraid of dying when you drive. If you were afraid of dying then you wouldn't want to cross a street either, or take your dog for a walk, or other things. Anybody can die at any time, right?

I hope you get over your fear of driving. It is important to know how to drive! Good luck!!Any advice for how to learn to drive, when your absolutley terrified of driving?
Have a good friend or family member who you get along with take you to a BIG parking lot. Start out slow, and just know you wont run into anything. Your confidence will build quick, I promise!
OK first if your scared of driving than i don't think you should move to NYC the traffic is horrible and you gotta be quick and relax when your driving if your not relaxed you panic and personally i don't want panicky people driving because they get so nervous that they end up crashing just relax take it step by step and if you have music that relaxes you then try that when you drive it might help
Don't do it. If you are that fearful you will not be a good driver. You will cause harm to yourself as well as other people because you will be nervous and not make good driving decisions. Just ride with others and/or take the bus or cabs. Lot's of people don't drive. It really is a more common thing than you may know.
I as 18 when I got my license, I was scared at first but I picked it up. Before you get in a real car practice on games may not be the real thing but still takes away the fear then asked some one to drive you around so you can get,the felling of the car, when you take your test just take deep breaths, Now i work at the Driving Test place. If you need more help go to www.Drivingtest.com or something like that or go to mini clip.com look for the game driving test if you pass that it will give you a website and it can let you practiced your driving on line, if you need more help contact me, at morgan199611@yahoo.com

Don't be to afraid.
Get off the road and practice. Out in the country on a dirt road is good or even in a big field if you are afraid of hitting something. Once you get the feel for how to handle a car you will be screaming and bitchin just like everyone else on the turnpike. Kick some butt!!!
ya don't even think of driving
I think it's one of those fears that you have to conquer by getting out there and doing it. When you're practicing stick to the roads you know best, and stay focused on the road.

The more you drive, get a bit more adventurous... try unfamiliar streets and eventually try a thruway (try during mid-day or in the evening when the roads are less busy).

You'll do it! It just takes time to get over your fear. If things don't start getting easier for you, talk to a therapist about your fears. He/she can teach you techniques that will help you to get over your fear of dying behind the wheel.
You should be terrified. 40,000-50,000 Americans die in car accidents every year. I wouldn't drive. I still do, though, but that's only because I've lost the will to live. Plus sometimes I get the urge to ';think outside the bun';.
