How do you belly dance?

I want to know how to move my hips, any hints/ tricks or videos? I saw one on you tube of a girl doing rude boy and it was pretty good : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKeiWIXJ3鈥?/a> How can I do it similar to her?How do you belly dance?
That's not really belly dancing...belly dancing is feminine and smooth not all over the place and crazy lol. You can just youtube online belly dance lessons or hip rolls, undulations, rib circles, etc. I took classes but before that, I had the basic moves just watching videos. I'll try and find this one woman that was helpful.

I agree that is not bellydancing - but not all bellydancing is smooth and self consciously feminine.

Tribal fusion fuses bellydance with other dance forms such as industrial, hip hop, flamenco, Indian etc. It is always, if done correctly, very controlled and very muscular.

If you really want to learn, the best way to do so is to take classes. Look for tribal fusion or ATS classes. There are details to the movements that you'll never get from videos. But if there are no tribal classes near you, take normal bellydance classes, and top up with DVDs and workshops. The techniques can be quite different but some of the skills are transferable.

If you just want to learn bits - the most important advice is to use your internal muscles to move your body around. For example to move your hips, get balanced, legs slightly bent, feet hip socket width apart or closer, tail bone tucked in - bounce a bit, and then imagine your body is hanging from your ribcage and that your legs are only there to give support. Then move your hips around using your stomach muscles - letting your legs flex underneath but the legs do not drive the movement.

To move your arms, use the muscles under your shoulder blades, keeping your shoulders down.
